Research on global history focuses on historical occurrences, developments, interdependencies, connections, and transfers between different regions of the world and helps to better understand their respective decouplings, demarcations and influences. Global history is not just a method, but a perspective that transcends borders and challenges us to understand historical processes on a global scale.

The series of lectures and panels "Global History", initiated by the Max Weber Foundation's Georgia office and funded by the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS, deals with questions relating to the approaches to global, transnational, transregional and international history that characterize current research debates. From 2024 to 2025, eight individual events focusing on Georgia and the Caucasus will take place under the title "Between the empires. Georgia and the Caucasus in global contests".

The series started in May 2024 in Yerevan, Armenia. Renowned academics such as Prof. Dr. Annette Weinke, Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, Prof. Dr. Hilly Moodrick Even Khen, Ariel University Center for the Research and Study of Genocide, and Dr. Suren Manukyan, Yerevan State University, came together for a panel discussion titled "Comparative Histories of Genocides and the Development of International Law". The discussion was followed by a workshop with young academics and students.

The 2024 series was continued in July in Tbilisi, with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Roland Wenzlhuemer, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
