Six stages, a movie screen, nine rehearsal rooms and a restaurant: Kampnagel Internationale Kulturfabrik is Germany’s largest independent performance and production venue. Converted into a multifunctional stage complex in 1984, the former crane factory is now one of Hamburg’s most diverse and contemporary cultural institutions. With the series “ZEIT FÜR WELTTHEATER” (Time for World Theater), launched by Kampnagel and the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS in 2019, the two entities have created a venue for international avant-garde theatre.

The aim of the “ZEIT FÜR WELTTHEATER” program is to support the work of internationally active, independent theatre companies through co-productions and the staging of guest performances, thus allowing the resulting plays to also benefit from international attention. The experience of theatergoers is expressively enriched through supplemental visual art, music and digital media. “ZEIT FÜR WELTTHEATER” promotes innovative aesthetics and builds cultural bridges between different audiences and generations. With the series, Hamburg audiences have the opportunity to experience major productions, a prime example being Philipe Quesne’s play “The Garden of Delights” (German: Der Garten der Lüste), which was previously staged at the Europe’s most important avant-garde theatre festival (Festival d’Avignon).
